QUESTION:
I wonder if I can go swimming? I am afraid that the chlorine in pool water may contaminate my breastmilk.

ANSWER:
There is no reason why you can't go swimming. There are no indications that chorine in pool water can contaminate the breastmilk. Do note though that chlorine can be drying to the skin, so if you find your nipples becoming dry and irritated, you could apply a coat of purified lanolin (such as Lansinoh? to your nipples. Many breastfeeding mothers and our babies enjoy swimming. It's certainly an invigorating form of exercise, especially in our hot weather!
